The Level 2 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is your pathway to impact classrooms and help shape the future generation positively. In today’s education landscape, supporting teaching has become more essential than ever, with teaching assistants now a cornerstone of UK schools.

This course is perfect if you are new to support work in education and want to deepen your knowledge and move towards a nationally recognised teaching assistant qualification. You’ll explore modules covering child psychology, special educational needs (SEN), and developmental techniques, which are crucial for creating inclusive and engaging environments for every learner. This diploma provides you with a comprehensive knowledge base that allows you to bring meaningful support to students and teachers alike.

You must find your own work placement for at least half a day per week. This can be in the primary, secondary, or FE sectors. We do not mind what year you are in as long as it is classroom-based with a qualified teacher. Private nurseries, before-school, after-school clubs, and midday supervisor roles are unsuitable.

  • Entry Requirements

    4 GCSEs at grades 9-3 (A*-D) (English and maths desirable) or a Level 1 qualification.

  • Assessment

    You will undertake a variety of tasks during classroom time including group and individual work and practical projects. You will be studying alongside colleagues from a range of settings and will learn a lot through comparing your different experiences. You will assemble a portfolio of assessed evidence as your progress through the course. You will be asked to have some evidence witnessed by the setting e.g. activity plans to confirm that they have taken place.

    You will need to complete an 80-hour placement between September and June whilst on the course and will be observed by a member of the teacher training team at the setting.
